The world population grows so rapidly that result in an augment of food consumption, while the agricultural area is decreasing due to the increasing need for housing and industrial sites. This creates an imbalance of food production and consumption which eventually creates food scarcity. This condition needs to be overcome through productivity enhancement by planting better rice seed varieties that can produce more yields on the same size of land.

As a response to the global food scarcity especially rice, the agricultural experts in various countries have been developing hybrid rice technology. The hybrid technology utilizes the benefits of various varieties to be hybridized to get new superior varieties. Nowadays the hybrid seed technology has been able to produce 20-60% more yields than the inbrid seeds. The use of hybrid rice seeds is 30% more efficient than the use of inbrid seeds.

In general, the production potential of hybrid seeds is around 12.5 to 13.8 tons per hectare where as the inbrid seeds produce only approximately 7 to 8.4 tons per hectare. Moreover, only 15 kilograms of hybrid seeds are needed for one hectare, but 50 kilograms of inbrid seeds are required for the same size of land. Other benefits of hybrid seeds are that they are more tolerant to unfavourable soil or climate conditions for rice cultivation. This technology will be continuously developed especially in analyzing the hybridization of seeds in order to produce better quality seeds with higher productivity.

PT BIOGENE PLANTATION plays an active role in developing hybrid rice seeds supported by professional experts and continuous research in order to produce superior rice seeds which are called "SEMBADA". Currently, PT BIOGENE PLANTATION has been able to produce hybrid rice seeds up to 3 tons per hectare. The hybrid rice seeds can produce rice productivity as much as 12.5 - 13.8 tons per hectare in an optimum condition. These efforts will be continuously developed to get better crops in the future.
